Purpose & Values

The Hoosick Area Church Association is dedicated to cooperation among the churches in the Hoosick area. HACA promotes corporate ministry among the member churches, in addition to individual church ministries taken on by congregations. Through our common faith we are called to:

  • To feed the hungry

  • To welcome strangers

  • To clothe the naked

  • To comfort those who mourn

HACA is member churches working together to do more than any one of them can do alone.

In the late 1960’s two Hoosick Falls pastors, Rev. Robert Sprunger and Rev. John Elliott, proposed to the other churches that they pool their resources and distribute food to the needy from one central location. This would provide a central location where people could be served at any time.  It would also eliminate the problem of people going from church to church seeking food at each one.  It was decided to call the place the Hoosick Area Emergency Relief (HAER) Food Closet and house it in the basement of the 1st Baptist Church at 80 Main Street, where it is currently located. For almost 25 years the Food Closet existed simply on donations from the member churches. Over time refrigerators were added for perishable foods, and eventually two freezers to hold meat and other foods.
